Floyd Abrams, the First Amendment attorney, points out in an opinion paper
to be published Tuesday that both liberals and conservatives have a fair-weather attitude toward speech protections, such as conservatives who have
changed their stance on the fairness doctrine, Broadcasting & Cable reports.
Abrams wrote that he had defended one TV network from complaints filed from
groups including Accuracy in Media that it had violated the fairness
doctrine, the publication reports.
