In Defense of Cramer

Mar 17, 2009  •  Post A Comment

Jon Stewart was wrong in accusing Jim Cramer and CNBC of covering up the financial shenanigans that led up to the financial collapse, Washington Post columnist Richard Cohen says. Cohen asks: How could Cramer have known companies like Bear Stearns, Merrill Lynch and AIG were about to collapse when their own CEOs didn’t?

  1. But Stewart’s populist attack is easy, cheap fodder. Hindsight is remarkably accurate. The only mistake Cramer made (IMHO) was not being more aggressive in his own defense. He chose to say ‘yeh but…’ and should have said ‘Hey, when you can antipate the jokes in Jay’s monologue let me know. Nobody saw this coming…get off my back…”

  2. The fact that none of them saw it coming is not much of a defense, nor is it a vote of confidence going forward for either the pundits or the executives they cover: “Follow me, I’m blind.”

  3. Jon Stewart [Leibowitz] is a typical lib, piling onto whatever pile is designated by the Clinton-now-Obama War Room. The coordination of media in their daily agenda just doesn’t happen. It’s planned and folks like Jon are tools.

  4. I don’t get the whole “Leibowitz” in parenthesis, Dougie. Seems kind of an anti-Semitic observation, you know? Also, Jim Cramer is a liberal Democrat as well, in case you didn’t know, and a lot of people don’t know.

  5. Leibowitz is Stewart’s real last name, Thurston.

  6. i guess if you want to know what is happening at the moment watching cramer is ok. Just dont believe that he can bring anything “future” to the table. He obviously didn’t know this was coming. How can he know about anything else.
By the way, who wants to listen to a guy that has cost me money in the last few months.

  7. stewart will do anything to get his name in the paper. every line for him is written and he is not funny.
