‘Damages’ Softens Close Character

FX’s “Damages,” which ended its second season on Wednesday, has transformed Glenn Close’s character by allowing her to show her fear and vulnerability, the New York Times reports. Still, with her goal of bringing down the evil Ultima National Resources, the show seems to veer from earlier populist legal shows that suggested an average person could redress corporate wrongs, the newspaper says. With Close’s character, the message seems to be that only the wealthy and well-connected are able to bring down corporate evildoers, the Times says.
