TLC’s series “Jon & Kate Plus 8” drew record ratings for its season premiere Monday amid publicity that the couple at the center of the reality show is breaking apart, the New York Times reports. With some saying the program’s Gosselin family is being exploited, the paper said the network issued a statement. “The show’s ratings have grown consistently, as there has been interest in these real-life issues of this real-life family,” the statement said. “We will continue to air as the interest continues, and the family wants to do it.”

  1. Who’s kidding who. While proclaiming privacy for the family, and “not our decision, the network is loving all this publicity. They’ll squeeze every dollar they can out of this family before discarding the show as soon as they fanfare stops. That’s they way it works in tabloid television.
Luckily, the kids are too young to know how badly they’re being used so the network can get rich off their toddler years.

  3. These two parents should have decided a long time ago exactly how far they are willing to go with this concept. In my opinion, they crossed the line I would have set a while ago, when they started accepting free trips and merchandise and started to stress the family with book tours and promotional events.
Let us watch the beautiful children grow up together and see how they interact. THAT is what this show should be all about. The parents and their trials and tribulations are just not that interesting, to tell the truth. It’s just Star magazine fodder, IMHO.

  4. Wonderful place of duty. I am a subscriber.
