NBC to Make U.S. Version of One of the Best Series Ever on TV

As it did with "The Office," NBC is dipping once again into the rich heritage of British TV shows to make a U.S. edition.

This time it’s one of the shows many TV critics have hailed as one of the best to ever appear on the medium: the popular U.K. detective series “Prime Suspect,” which ran in the U.S. on PBS and starred Helen Mirren as the tough Det. Chief Inspector Jane Tennison, Variety, reports.

Hank Steinberg of CBS’ “Without a Trace,” is developing the project and writing a two-hour pilot presentation.

The project resulted from a deal between NBC and ITV Studios to swap content.
