Cox Communications will integrate its video-on-demand service in TiVo’s digital video recorders, allowing viewers to tap both services without dealing with two separate devices, reports the Los Angeles Times.
Without this arrangement, viewers would need a cable set-top box for on-demand shows and a separate TiVo box for services such as Netflix’s streaming movie option, the story says. The deal is likely to draw new customers, however, because existing subscribers aren’t likely to swap out their devices, the article adds.
The deal comes as TiVo has sought to collaborate with cable and satellite companies after struggling to sell its devices because cable companies began offering similar digital-video recording features in their set-top boxes, the story says. Cox has 6 million subscribers and operates in 18 states.
