Cold War-era Berlin will be the setting of a new HBO spy drama project from an unusual line-up of names: New Yorker writer Malcolm Gladwell, "Boardwalk Empire" executive producers Stephen Levinson and (former rapper) Mark Wahlberg and film and television writer Charles Randolph, reports Nellie Andreeva at Deadline.com

The untitled project, which will be written by Randolph, will focus on a missionary who gets involved with the CIA, the story says.

"Gladwell and Randolph, who are friends, had been working on an idea for a spy project when they met with Levinson and Wahlberg who had also been looking to do a spy drama. The four joined forces and took the joint project to HBO where Levinson and Wahlberg have deep ties as producers," the story notes.

  1. Why refer to Wahlberg as former rapper? He is a noted Producer (Entourage and In Treatment), has acted in over 25 feature films and is an Academy Award nominated actor, winner of the Bafta Award, and a Golden Globe nominee. It is a bit petty to only identify him as a rapper.
