Lee Abrams, Tribune Co.’s chief innovation officer, has been suspended by the company after he sent a memo to employees Monday that included links to material that some staffers found offensive, The Wall Street Journal reports.

Tribune Co. Chief Executive Randy Michaels announced the suspension Wednesday in a memo to employees in which he said Abrams has been suspended without pay while the company "reviews the circumstances surrounding the email and video link he distributed on Monday."

As previously reported, Abrams sent out another company-wide memo Tuesday apologizing for the original e-mail, which reportedly included a link labeled “Sluts” that linked to a racy video. The incident happened in the wake of a New York Times story that was critical of the frat-house-like corporate culture at Tribune Co.

“Mr. Abrams’ memo linked to a fake news segment from The Onion depicting the crash of a VH1 reality bus in California that caused the spilling of ‘more than 2,000 pounds of slut,’" The Wall Street Journal story reported.

Michaels said in his memo Wednesday, “Lee recognizes that the video was in extremely bad taste and that it offended employees. But this is the kind of serious mistake that can’t be tolerated; we intend to address it promptly and forcefully," the story reported.

  1. That video sounds pretty funny. I’m going to go look for it now.

  2. The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.
