The 2-year old daughter of Amber Portwood, the star of MTV’s "Teen Mom," has become a ward of the state of Indiana, reports RadarOnline.com

The child is currently staying with Gary Shirley, her father, while the Department of Child Services assesses the girl’s living situation, the story notes. "A ward of the state is an adult or child whose guardianship is determined by a judge who appoints a government agency to oversee the ward of the state’s affairs," the story says.

Portwood was formally charged with domestic violence and battery after an episode of the MTV show portrayed her hitting Shirley multiple times while their young daughter watched, according to ABCNews.com
