NBC Gives a Three-Year Commitment to Newsmagazine

In order to ensure that Brian Williams’ newsmagazine "Rock Center" is given a fair chance to succeed, NBC has given the program a three-year commitment, reports TV Guide.

NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt said he has confidence in the concept and wants to launch a successful program in this genre. "There is no doubt in my mind they will produce an excellent show," he told the publication.

In the style of CBS’s "60 Minutes," "Rock Center" will have two or three stories each hour — long-form stories that are carefully researched and developed over time.

The launch faces challenges in an age when a news show must compete with the information available on cable, the Internet and mobile devices, the story points out.
