NBC has bought a drama project called "Sparks," which is based on the case files and life of renowned neurologist and writer Dr. Oliver Sacks, reports Deadline.com.

The project, executive produced by "Medium" creator Glenn Gordon Caron and Michael London of "Milk," has received a commitment plus penalty, the story says.

Sacks is the author of a number of best-selling books, including "Awakenings," which became an Oscar-nominated film starring Robert De Niro and Robin Williams, and "Musicophilia: Tales of Music and the Brain," which formed the basis of the "Nova" documentary "Musical Minds."
