35 Years After It Went Off the Air, a TV Show Is Coming Back — as a Comic Book

A TV series that went off the air in 1978 is coming back in comic book form. The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed reports that "The Six Million Dollar Man," which aired on ABC for five seasons, will hit the stands early next year.

Dynamite Entertainment is coming out with "The Six Million Dollar Man: Season 6," a series of monthly comic books that will pick up where the final season ended, the story says.

"We went out of our way to use the ‘Kung Fu Slow Motion’, the sound effects, and all the oddities of that era so the comic book would feel like the original TV series," said writer James Kuhoric.

The sixth "season" will feature Maskatron, a robotic villain that was made into a toy tie-in.

"In discussions, we contemplated: Why not bring into the series a villain whom fans would know from the toys, even though he wasn’t in the TV series?" asked Dynamite CEO and Publisher Nick Barrucci.

The comic book will be released in February 2014, just after the series’ 40th anniversary year. The ABC show debuted in January 1974.

  1. For anyone interested in this Dynamite has been putting out series based on both the Six Million Dollar Man and Bionic Woman for a year or so now under the titles ‘Bionic Man’ and ‘Bionic Woman’. The former was at least partially scripted by Kevin Smith at the outset (and, interestingly, though Harve Bennett is credited no mention is made of Martin Caidin).
