Legendary TV Comedy Troupe to Reunite

A comedy troupe that had a big impact on TV before going on to make an even bigger splash in movies is poised to reunite. The troupe is Monty Python, which became a sensation for its BBC sketch show, launched in 1969, and a series of movies including the 1974 hit "Monty Python and the Holy Grail."

"They are all officially senior citizens — and so are many of their fans — but that isn’t stopping the surviving members of Monty Python from planning a reunion that is expected to take the form of a stage show," the Los Angeles Times reports. "Members of the beloved British comedy group are expected to announce this week that they are reuniting for a new stage production. Eric Idle said on his Twitter account that a news conference will be held in London on Thursday."

Idle wrote in that tweet: "Make sure Python fans are alerted to the big forthcoming news event."

The Times adds: "It remains unclear if the show will feature new comedy material and how the Monty Python members will be involved. The British tabloid the Sun first reported Monday that the surviving members of the troupe have agreed to a reunion."

Along with Idle, the surviving members of the group are John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Michael Palin and Terry Jones. The sixth member of the group, Graham Chapman, died in 1989.

  1. That would be WONDERFUL to see! Now, if only they could do a new series. Nudge nudge, wink wink….
