NBC’s Bob Costas Faces Slow Recovery From Eye Infection

NBC Olympics broadcaster Bob Costas is facing a slow recovery from an eye infection that has kept him off the air for two nights in a row, reports the Los Angeles Times’ Show Tracker.

“It’s a slow process," Mark Lazarus, chairman of NBC Sports Group, told reporters during a Wednesday conference call. "He’s very frustrated."

The eye infection worsened over the first few days of the Games, eventually spreading to both eyes. He was replaced Wednesday night, for the second consecutive evening, by “Today” co-host Matt Lauer.

Costas is receiving treatment from Russian doctors, but Lazarus declined to disclose details of his treatment, except to note that he’s keeping his room dark and trying to get better.

"We’re hopeful Bob will be back in the chair soon," Lazarus said. "We’re taking it day by day."

  1. I wonder what hurts more. Bob’s eye or his bruised HUGE ego. Because it has to be killing him that he is not on the air.
A close second bruised egos has to be Dan Patrick, Al Micheals, and Brian Williams. Because Matt Lauer was picked over them to host. And I think Lauer is doing good job.
