Why the Oprah Winfrey Network Decided to Move

The Oprah Winfrey Network — OWN — is moving to The Lot in West Hollywood, from its current location in Los Angeles’ Miracle Mile neighborhood, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The cable channel will move into three floors of a new five-story building that will provide OWN’s executives and producers with access to screening rooms and sound stages, something the channel doesn’t have at its current location, the story reports.

"We’ve been a little limited in our current offices, so when we film in L.A. we’re shooting in people’s houses or renting stages," OWN and Harpo Studios President Sheri Salata said.

The move isn’t related to the decision to sell Harpo Studios’ Chicago space, the report notes.

OWN President Erik Logan tells the publication that he and Salata were inspired by the atmosphere on the active lot, where an episode of HBO’s “True Blood” was taping while they took a tour.

"Sheri and I, along with Oprah, love the idea of having a rich, stimulating creative environment to work in," he said.
