Animal Planet wants to stir up the kind of buzz and eyeballs that Syfy found with its TV movie "Sharknado," which became a cult sensation.

The Los Angeles Times’ Show Tracker reports that Animal Planet is turning to killer lampreys to try to emulate that success. The network has set a May 25 airdate for “Blood Lake: Attack of the Killer Lampreys,” an original movie from the Asylum, which is the studio that produced “Sharknado.”

Like “Sharknado,” which stars Ian Ziering, "Blood Lake" will also feature an alumnus of “Beverly Hills 90210,” with Shannen Doherty slated to star as a woman battling hungry lamprey eels, the story notes. The project will also feature Christopher Lloyd and Jason Brooks.

The movie will air as part of Animal Planet’s Monster Week, which will include the season finale of “River Monsters” and a project called “Man-Eating Zombie Cats.”
