Charter Communications came under fire from customers after the cable provider tweeted about FXX’s “The Simpsons” marathon, instead of addressing an Internet outage impacting much of its service area, reports the New York Post.
“Subscribers slammed the fourth-biggest cable provider on Facebook and Twitter on Sunday for failing to keep up with customer-service calls and ignoring social-media pleas for help,” the story notes.
One site that detects service outages said issues were affecting much of Charter’s service area, including Boston, Los Angeles, Chicago and Dallas, on Saturday.
“@CharterCom has been tweeting out contests nonstop, but has yet to mention nationwide #CharterOutage,” one Twitter user wrote.
Another tweeted, “Is there a company worse than Charter at public relations and social media? I think not.”
A spokeswoman told the Associated Press that the company was working on restoring service and that it didn’t know the cause of the problems.
