Daytime Drama Series Adds One of the Stars of a Beloved 1980s Sitcom

One of the stars of a popular 1980s NBC comedy series is joining a daytime soap opera. TheWrap.com reports that the CBS soap “The Young and the Restless” has cast “Family Ties” star Meredith Baxter.

Baxter played Elyse Keaton, the mom on “Family Ties,” which aired for seven seasons, from 1982-1989.

On “Y&R,” Baxter will play a drinking buddy for socialite Nikki Newman, who is played by Melody Thomas Scott. Her character, Maureen, is described as charming and intelligent, but also manipulative. Her character will debut Sept. 8.
