NBC is developing a comedy based on a 1980s feature film. Deadline.com reports that the reboot is based on the 1985 film “Real Genius,” which starred Val Kilmer as a genius studying at a technical university called Pacific Tech.
The reboot has a script commitment plus penalty and comes from Sony TV, Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison, and 3 Arts Entertainment. The project is written by “Workaholics” co-executive producer Craig DiGregorio and David King of “Parks and Recreation.”
The new version will take the story off the campus and make it a workplace comedy, the story notes. Kilmer’s character will be transformed into a “sheltered, naive co-worker,” the report adds.
