NBC’s Thursday night NFL opener delivered a huge audience. Deadline.com reports that the game pitting the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks against the Green Bay Packers scored a 16.8/28 rating, 4% better than the 16.2/29 for last year’s Denver-Baltimore NFL kickoff game.

“Last night’s game was the third-best metered market result the kickoff game has seen since the Thursday game was first introduced in 2002 with the San Francisco 49ers beating the New York Giants,” the story notes, adding: “The top 5 local markets were Milwaukee (44.0/64), Seattle (42.2/73), Minneapolis (26.6/44), New Orleans (25.2/38) and Sacramento (21.2/35).”

NBC dominated its broadcast competition in prime time, averaging a 15.5/26 in metered markets to outdistance CBS (3.8/6), Fox (1.6/3) and ABC (1.4/2).

  1. The NFL needs to get smart… and eliminate the middlemen like NBC, Fox, CBS, and ESPN… and offer their games live on NFL streaming. Their are millions of fans like us, who would pay the NFL hundreds of dollars a year for their games… we would have the money, because we would no longer be held hostage by DirecTv, Comcast, and the other systems, just so we can watch NFL. Most of the rest of the programming now, offered by Comcast, DirecTV, and the networks is garbage…that
NO ONE cares about? Want proof? – Read the above article!!- On opening NFL night, the COMBINED audiences of Fox, CBS, and ABC don’t even add up to half of the NFL audience!!! That says it all, right there. Hollywood and the networks are producing crap, that NO ONE cares about or watches anymore!!!
