An Academy Award-winning director has signed on for a new NBC series that will star Jennifer Lopez. The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed reports that Barry Levinson will direct the pilot for “Shades of Blue.”
Levinson, who won an Oscar for directing “Rain Man,” will also executive produce the 13-episode drama, the story says. Lopez stars as Harlee McCord, a single mother and corrupt cop who is assigned to the FBI’s anti-corruption unit.
Lopez is also executive producing, along with her “American Idol” colleague Ryan Seacrest, the story adds. Production will start next year, with the project expected to air in the 2015-16 television season. Adi Hasak of “3 Days to Kill” will write and executive produce.
“It’s an exciting project to be working on with Jennifer,” Levinson said. “Adi has written a police drama that gets into the fascinating dirt behind law enforcement with a female character we haven’t really seen before.”
