Piers Morgan Says He Urged CNN’s Jeff Zucker to Replace ’Stiff’ Anderson Cooper With Another Familiar Cable News Host

Former CNN host Piers Morgan says he tried to convince CNN Worldwide President Jeff Zucker to hire Megyn Kelly from Fox News Channel to replace a “stiff” Anderson Cooper. Morgan makes the revelation in a column he wrote for The Hollywood Reporter.

Morgan writes, “I suggested to Jeff that Megyn Kelly would be a perfect prime-time star for CNN — young, beautiful, slick, razor smart, bursting with opinions, humor and authority.” He adds, “I was convinced she’d give me a much better lead-in than Anderson Cooper, who for all his qualities as a reporter is stiff in a studio and gets annihilated in the ratings every night by O’Reilly.”

Morgan relates that Zucker said he had tried to hire Kelly, and days later it was announced that she was moving to Fox News’ prime-time schedule.

“CNN has many good anchors, but it needs to find more of its own Megyn Kellys,” Morgan adds. “I wish Jeff and CNN every success. I enjoyed almost all my time there.”

  1. Piers Morgan = Idiot

  2. The problem with Piers Morgan’s show was that the host was unwatchable.

  3. Although Mr. Morgan may have a point with the power of a lead-in, after a while, it is up to the show itself to develop viewer interest and growth. I for one liked “Piers Morgan Tonight,” but once he started stepping over the line with his politics (gun control) it became too much…

  4. deport Piers already!!!
