Reality Star Hit With Prison Term

The sentence is in for a reality television personality in a high-profile tax fraud case. “Real Housewives of New Jersey” star Teresa Giudice received a sentence of 15 months in federal prison on multiple counts of fraud, Deadline.com reports.

The Los Angeles Times reported earlier that Giudice’s husband, Joe Giudice, was handed a sentence of 41 months in federal prison for conspiracy and bankruptcy fraud, and was ordered to pay $414,000 in restitution. Judge Esther Salas handed down the sentences today in federal court in Newark, N.J.

The judge indicated earlier that if both Teresa and Joe Giudice received jail time, the couple’s sentences would be staggered — with Teresa Giudice serving her time first — so that one of the two would remain home to take care of the couple’s children. Teresa Giudice was sentenced about four hours after her husband, the Deadline report notes.

The L.A. Times story reports: “The two pleaded guilty in March to charges of conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud and three types of bankruptcy fraud. At the time, Joe Giudice also admitted failing to file a tax return on more than $1 million in income from 2004 through 2008, and pleaded guilty to the 2004 offense.”
