‘Interstellar’ Writer Nolan Turns to Asimov Series at HBO

The co-writer of the current space blockbuster “Interstellar” is developing a series for HBO based on the “Foundation” trilogy by science-fiction master Isaac Asimov.

TheWrap.com reports that Jonathan Nolan, who co-wrote the screenplay for “Interstellar” with his brother, director Christopher Nolan, will write and produce the “Foundation” project for HBO.

Nolan is already working with HBO on “Westworld,” and has been working on “Foundation” for several months. He hinted at the project to Indiewire recently, when the publication asked him to name the one work of science fiction he loved but about which the public didn’t know enough.

Nolan responded: “Well, I fucking love the ‘Foundation’ novels by Isaac Asimov — they’re certainly not unknown, but that’s a set of books I think everyone would benefit from reading. That’s a set of books where the influence they have is just fucking massive; they have many imitators and many have been inspired by them, but go back and read those, and there are some ideas in those that’ll set your fucking hair on fire.”

HBO had no comment, the story adds.

“Foundation” was acquired by Sony Pictures in 2009, but a project failed to come to fruition. That led HBO to spend what TheWrap calls “big bucks to acquire the property when it became available earlier this summer.”

  1. You really want to set you effing hair on fire, read 1984 and Brave New World again. If those don’t scare you, you’re a Koch brother.
