Jon Stewart Apologizes for Comment on CNN

Nov 5, 2014  •  Post A Comment

Jon Stewart of Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” is apologizing to viewers for telling CNN that he hadn’t voted, adding that he had made it up, reports Deadline.com.

Stewart didn’t explain why he made it up, the story adds. His comments about failing to vote came when he spoke to Christiane Amanpour on CNN about his new film “Rosewater” and the midterm elections. She asked him if he had voted, and he responded, “No,” adding, “I just moved. I don’t even know where my thing is now.”

Later on “The Daily Show,” Stewart explained that he did vote on Tuesday. “First of all, I’ve known where my thing is since I was 13,” Stewart said.

He added: “To set the record straight, I did vote today. … I was being flip, and it kind of took off. I shouldn’t have been flip about that. … It sent a message that I didn’t think voting was important or that I didn’t think it was a big issue. And I do, and I did vote. I was being flip, and I shouldn’t have done that. That was stupid. So, I apologize.”

  1. It’s the youth of this country who should apologize for staying home yesterday. They typically show up at the main elections to rock the vote and then ignore the off-year elections that protect their on-year choice.

  2. This is a very talented man that I have enjoyed watching for a long time. His MO is really very clear. He absolutely did not vote – and realized the moment he said it that he made a mistake. At that point he did get quite “flippant” and built a sarcastic and comedic response for the remainder of the interview. That he felt that an apology was needed is confirmation that he slipped.

  3. One of the freedoms we have in this country is to not vote if we are not happy with our choices.
