An espionage drama series has been canceled after its first season. Deadline.com reports that the show “Matador,” which aired on Roberto Rodriguez’s El Rey Network, has shut down after just 13 episodes.
The series, created by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, starred Gabriel Luna as an undercover CIA agent posing as a pro soccer player. The expensive production was the network’s second original scripted series, and executives had been so confident in it that they renewed it for a second season even before it premiered July 15.
The report cites weak international sales as a factor in what El Rey called “a business decision” to cancel the show.
