Youth-Oriented Channel Reportedly Eyeing a Reboot With Older Viewers in Mind

Dec 4, 2014  •  Post A Comment

A channel whose programming lineup is aimed primarily at younger viewers and families is thinking about taking a more grown-up approach.

Variety reports that ABC Family, known for series such as “The Fosters,” “Pretty Little Liars” and other youth-oriented programs, “might look for new graphics, new programs and even a new name in 2015 as part of a proposed reboot that would make it more appealing to its millennial audience.”

The network declined to comment, except to say, “We are looking at the network to determine what needs to be rebooted to make sure its in line with current millennial sensibilities.”

Under its new leader Tom Ascheim, who took over ABC Family in late 2013, the network has brought in several new executives, and has seen others depart.

  1. They can’t do a new name. Pat Robertson stipulated that “Family” remains part of the channel’s name in perpetuity when he originally sold it.
