A lawsuit has been filed against CBS, Sony Pictures TV and other producers of the soap operas “The Young and the Restless” and “The Bold and the Beautiful.” Deadline.com eports that actress Victoria Rowell, who left “Y&R” eight years ago after 17 years on the show, filed the suit in federal court in New York.
Rowell is alleging that the network and producers are not letting her back on the show because she has publicly advocated increased diversity on soap operas. If it’s true, that would be a violation of federal law and the California Fair Employment and Housing Act, the report notes.
In a statement Wednesday in response to the suit, CBS said: “We were disappointed to learn that, after leaving the cast of ‘The Young and the Restless’ on her own initiative, Ms. Rowell has attempted to rewrite that history through lawyers’ letters and a lawsuit that has no merit. We harbor no ill will toward Ms. Rowell, but we will vigorously defend this case.”
Rowell played the popular character Drucilla Winters on “Y&R,” and has been trying to get back on the soap opera since 2010, the report notes.
