Nielsen Offers a Different Take on Cord Cutting

Apr 23, 2015  •  Post A Comment

Nielsen executives talked about cord cutting today, and the view of the measurement service stands in contrast to the widely held view that younger viewers are abandoning cable and satellite TV, Variety reports.

“In a press briefing held Thursday, executives from Nielsen suggested cable subscribers who also have a subscription-video-on-demand service are more likely to drop the SVOD than they are cable,” Variety reports. “In fact, according to Nielsen data, 93% of homes who had both services were more likely to keep the cable and instead drop broadband or SVOD offerings, said Glenn Enoch, senior VP of audience insights for the measurement and data service.”

Enoch added: “Cable may have a little more staying power than it’s actually being given credit for recently.”

  1. And for the 10,000,000 households who use antennas? Are they chopped liver? This is the second article from Nielsen about homes without cable, and in neither were OTA viewers even mentioned. Tsk tsk.
