ABC Broadcast Hits 14-Year Ratings High

A special telecast airing Sunday on ABC hit a 14-year high in total viewers, along with a 12-year high in the key 18-49 demo.

On a night when Taylor Swift became the most decorated winner in the history of the Billboard Music Awards, the ceremony delivered a preliminary 11.1 million total viewers, up 6% from a year ago and the telecast’s highest number since 2003, Variety reports.

The broadcast also had a 3.7 average rating (12 share) in viewers 18-49, rising 4% from last year to a 14-year high, the story reports.

Swift had a big night, winning eight awards to push her lifetime total to 20, surpassing Garth Brooks’ record of 19.

The awards show’s strong turnout “contributed to soft season finale scores for Fox’s comedies and helped sink NBC dramas ‘A.D. The Bible Continues’ and ‘American Odyssey’ to new lows,” Variety notes.
