Broadcast Upfront by the Numbers: Who Has the Most New Shows? … and More

May 18, 2015  •  Post A Comment

Breaking down the broadcast networks’ upfront presentations by the numbers, the network with the most new shows is NBC — but not by much.

Bill Cromwell examines the numbers in Media Life Magazine, noting that NBC has six new shows on tap for the fall season. ABC, CBS and Fox each have five new shows lined up, with the CW slating just one, Cromwell reports.

The total number of new programs on the five broadcast networks — 22 — includes 12 new dramas and eight new comedies. Those numbers compare with 12 new dramas and 10 new comedies on the five networks last fall.

The networks have no new reality shows on tap, down from one a year ago. Conversely, one new variety show is on the way, vs. zero a year ago.

  1. Let’s hope that this means NBC is returning to good solid television programming that it was known for in the past and not this silly, fly by night shows of the past few years. NBC may want to consider bringing one of its retired presidents, Vince Manze, in as a consultant.
