Cablevision Ordered to Stop Bashing Verizon

A federal judge has shot down a campaign by Cablevision that humorously attacks Verizon. The New York Post reports that Judge Gary R. Brown issued a temporary injunction Monday against Cablevision ordering the company to take down the ads for a two-week period, with the possibility that the period will be extended.

“Cablevision’s TV spots featuring dueling cowboys mock Verizon, portraying it as a liar vis-a-vis claims about its Internet speeds and DVR quality,” the Post reports.

Brown said in his ruling: “I find that based on the preliminary showing made here the ads were viewed by the Court accusing Verizon of lying or making false statements are both literally untrue and implicitly false and are likely to mislead consumers.”

The Post report notes: “Cablevision, which operates Optimum-branded TV, phone and broadband service, has been in a long-term battle with telecom operator Verizon FiOS, which overlaps its footprint in the New York tri-state area.”

  1. I wonder when Time Warner/Dish will complain about the ad I saw out of the corner of my eye for Comcast last night…
