Actress Winona Ryder, one of the stars of the original “Beetlejuice” movie released way back in 1988, says a sequel is on the way.
Time magazine reports that Ryder talked about the situation during an appearance on NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers.” Asked whether the sequel is going to happen, she said, “I think I can confirm it.”
Winona offered no new details, mainly referencing earlier comments by the film’s director, Tim Burton. Time notes that Burton said in December that a sequel was in the works, with a script having been written with the original Betelgeuse, actor Michael Keaton, in mind.
Time quotes Burton saying at the time: “There’s only one Betelgeuse, and that’s Michael. There is a script, and I would love to work with him again. I think there is now a better chance than ever. I miss that character. There’s something that’s cathartic and amazing about it. I think it’s closer than ever.”
