Jennifer Lopez is about to become a presence on two broadcast networks — potentially on the same night. Her new NBC drama series, “Shades of Blue” — which also stars Ray Liotta and Drea de Matteo — has a premiere date set for Thursday, Jan. 14.
TVbytheNumbers.com notes that the date coincides with the first few weeks of Fox’s “American Idol,” when the singing competition will be airing two nights a week — including on Thursday nights. Lopez returns for her fifth season as a judge on “Idol,” which will be in its final season.
Her NBC show will launch with a two-hour premiere at 9 p.m. on Jan. 14 before settling into its regular 10 p.m. slot Jan. 21. “Shades of Blue” takes over the spot currently held down by NBC’s “The Player,” which premiered a month ago and is going away after nine episodes.
“‘Shades of Blue’ stars Lopez as an NYPD detective who’s part of a unit that frequently lines its pockets with extra-legal activities,” TVbytheNumbers notes. “When the FBI catches her, she’s forced to inform on her sergeant (Ray Liotta) and her fellow detectives. Drea de Matteo and Warren Kole also star.”
