‘Star Wars’ Director Hints at Why Luke Skywalker Is Missing From the New Trailer

J.J. Abrams addressed one of the hottest topics surrounding the recent release of the trailer for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” namely the absence of Luke Skywalker from the trailer.

But Abrams, the film’s director, didn’t offer much more insight than “It’s no accident” that the character is missing.

USA Today posted a clip of a red carpet appearance by Abrams in which a fan yells out, “Where’s Luke?” Abrams answers, “These are good questions to be asking. I can’t wait for you to find out the answers.”

He then follows up, saying it’s not an accident that Skywalker was omitted from the clip. He seems to hint that it’s related to the visual effects process, which he says “goes on for so long that my guess is that we’ll be doing visual effects for the next three or four weeks, even though the cut will be done before then.”
