Former Subway pitchman Jared Fogle received a prison sentence that was more severe than even what prosecutors were seeking. After pleading guilty to sex crimes this morning, Fogle returned to court in the afternoon and was hit with a sentence of almost 16 years in prison, the AP reports.

Fogle’s attorneys had been seeking a five-year sentence after Fogle admitted to having sex with underage prostitutes along with a child pornography charge. Prosecutors reportedly were seeking 12-1/2 years.

Fogle, 38, was handed a sentence of 15 years and eight months in prison.

“Fogle showed little emotion as the judge announced the sentence Thursday. Some of Fogle’s family members in the courtroom started crying and hugging each other when he [was] ordered taken into immediate custody,” the AP reports. “Federal marshals had Fogle remove his suit jacket, tie and belt before they handcuffed him behind his back. Fogle blew kisses to relatives as he was led away.”
