Sources Say Charlie Sheen Is HIV-Positive; Actor Will Discuss the Situation in TV Interview

Actor Charlie Sheen, who has been keeping an uncharacteristically low profile in recent months, is HIV-positive, according to sources cited by various media outlets.

The “Anger Management” star has scheduled a live interview with Matt Lauer on Tuesday’s edition of NBC’s “Today,” reportedly to discuss his health condition. E! News cites two unnamed sources confirming that Sheen is HIV-positive.

A press release issued today says Sheen, 50, “will make a revealing personal announcement” in the “Today” interview.

People magazine cites Hollywood publicist and crisis manager Howard Bragman saying the situation has been going on for some time. Bragman reportedly “was approached by people close to Sheen six months ago to deal with the crisis, but never dealt with him directly,” the People story says.

People quotes Bragman saying: “The interview could open up a lot of sympathy for him, but he has to be concerned about a fear of litigation from former sexual partners. You don’t take that lightly.”

Bragman adds: “It’s been going on for quite awhile. He’s not necessarily comfortable talking about it. It was very hard to get up the courage for him to talk about it.”

The E! News report notes: “The troubled actor has five children, ranging in age from 6 to 30, in addition to three ex-wives: Donna Peele (1995-1996), Denise Richards (2002-2006) and Brooke Mueller (2008-2011). E! News has learned that both Richards and her two daughters with Sheen, Sam and Lola, are HIV-negative.”

Sheen has been largely out of the spotlight this year, and hasn’t been seen on TV much since “Anger Management,” his FX sitcom, wrapped in December 2014.

  1. Yeah not surprised. No sympathy for him. He’s a Douchebag

    • I never worked with him so I can’t say. I don’t trust what the press says about anyone, however. I’ve worked with too many great people that the media doesn’t like (and as many jerk-offs that are LOVED by the press). (Yeah, I’m looking at you Spielberg.)

  2. Like the man says, “I’m shocked, shocked.”

  3. This is a man with family – 5 children most under the age of 10 who has to relay a horrible diagnosis that still has people who would rather not know then know and face up to this. I think it takes courage – and yes I get there are law suits and he was forced to come out. It still takes courage to face others – the stigma is not something I would want to go through or have my family go through in such a public way. I wish him well – best of health – and hopefully others will realize his courage in the next few days as it plays out in the press and give him a break.
