NBC has extended the season for a prime-time drama series. The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed reports that the network ordered five additional episodes of the spinoff “Chicago Med.”

The order brings “Med’s” freshman season to 18 episodes.

“Chicago Fire” and “Chicago PD” have each already received renewals for next season.

“‘Chicago Med’ came out of the gate strong for NBC, premiering to a 2.2 rating among adults 18-49 and 8.6 million viewers on Nov. 17,” the report notes. “The most recent new episode on Dec. 8 drew a 2.1 rating. The series is also bracing for its first three-way crossover with ‘Fire’ and ‘PD’ in the first week of January.”
