A revered TV show that launched 50 years ago is being celebrated this year with a wide-ranging series of events.
USA Today reports that the celebration of “Star Trek,” which premiered Sept. 8, 1966, on NBC, will include a 50th Anniversary Convention in Las Vegas in August; “Trek Talks,” in which experts will discuss “Star Trek”-oriented topics such as space exploration and medical technology at schools, museums and entertainment venues worldwide, beginning in August; “Star Trek — 50 Artists. 50 Years,” featuring artists including Leonard Nimoy, due to unwrap in July at Comic-Con in San Diego; and “The Starfleet Academy Experience,” opening in May in Ottawa.
“The official celebration is already under way with ‘Star Trek: The Ultimate Voyage,’ a 100-city concert tour featuring an orchestra playing the franchise’s music accompanied by relevant scenes from the many films and TV series,” the report adds.
