The husband and manager of superstar singer Celine Dion has died. USA Today reports that Rene Angelil died following a long battle with throat cancer. He was 73.

Dion, 47, called Angelil “the only boyfriend I’ve ever had” in an interview with the publication back in August. Angelil became her mentor early in her career and guided the Canadian-born songstress throughout her rise to stardom.

“The news was confirmed on Dion’s website Thursday where a statement announced Angelil died at their home in Las Vegas ‘after a long and courageous battle against cancer. The family requests that their privacy be respected at the moment; more details will be provided at a later time,'” the story reports.

Us Weekly reports that Dion has canceled scheduled concerts in Las Vegas. A statement on Dion’s website announced the cancellation of shows scheduled for this weekend at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, but Dion is not expected to perform again until late February.

Dion told USA Today in August that Angelil, who was back at home after undergoing a series of procedures in Boston hospitals, had been on a feeding tube for the past two years.

The two first met when Dion was 12, and married in 1994. They have three children together.
