A former Disney executive who became an advertising professor at Chapman University died Dec. 28. Cory O’Connor, 59, died at his home in Newport Beach, Calif., after a short illness.
At The Walt Disney Co., O’Connor was a key member of the leadership team in the formative years of the Disney Channel. As senior vice president of public relations, on-air marketing and corporate synergistic activities, O’Connor introduced service-oriented programming, helping to launch initiatives including the American Teacher Awards, the Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra, and the star-studded Earth Day program that premiered in 1996.
Since 2003, O’Connor was an assistant professor of advertising and public relations at Chapman University’s Lawrence and Kristina Dodge College of Film and Media Arts.
