Is Jimmy Fallon Now the King of Late-Night? The Latest Numbers Are Pretty Convincing

NBC’s “Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon” continues its dominance in the late-night ratings, with the latest Nielsen data showing “Fallon” topping CBS’s “Late Show with Stephen Colbert” by 73% and ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” by 86% in the key demo of viewers 18-49 for the week of Jan. 4-8.

“Fallon” leads the competition in every key measure, including adults, men and women 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54, along with total viewers. The weekly figures are based on Nielsen L+SD data.

In adults 18-49, “Fallon” delivered a 0.95 rating for the week, vs. a 0.55 for “Colbert” and a 0.51 for “Kimmel.” “Fallon” is also well ahead in the season-to-date figures, as shown below.

Late Show (CBS): 0.55 average rating in 18-49; 2.615 million total viewers

Kimmel Live (ABC)*: 0.51 average rating in 18-49; 2.277 million total viewers

12:35-1:05 a.m.

Nightline (ABC): 0.32 in 18-49; 1.487 million total viewers

12:35-1:35 a.m.

Seth Meyers (NBC)*: 0.46 in 18-49; 1.600 million total viewers

James Corden (CBS)*: 0.33 in 18-49; 1.286 million total viewers

* Friday’s “Kimmel,” “Seth Meyers” and “James Corden” were encores.

  1. Meh. If Fallon had these ratings 7-9 years ago he would be off the air. Late night TV has become nothing more than a “variety show” full of 2-3 minute games and skits designed for YouTube monetization.
