A drama series has the dubious distinction of being the first original scripted series to get the ax from cable and satellite channel WGN America. The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed reports that the network pulled the plug on “Manhattan,” which is also one of its first scripted originals.
The program wrapped its second season in December, and will not return for a third.
The report cites a statement from WGN America President and GM Matt Cherniss, who called the cancellation a “very difficult decision.”
In the announcement, Cherniss says: “We are proud of this critically acclaimed series, an extraordinary original drama, and are deeply disappointed that such a wonderful show could not find a larger audience. We thank the immensely talented Sam Shaw and Thomas Schlamme, along with the exceptional cast and crew and our great partners at Lionsgate and Skydance, for crafting a masterful series. We are equally grateful to the dedicated fans for their support over the last two seasons.”
