Drama Series Canceled

Feb 4, 2016  •  Post A Comment

A drama series has the dubious distinction of being the first original scripted series to get the ax from cable and satellite channel WGN America. The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed reports that the network pulled the plug on “Manhattan,” which is also one of its first scripted originals.

The program wrapped its second season in December, and will not return for a third.

The report cites a statement from WGN America President and GM Matt Cherniss, who called the cancellation a “very difficult decision.”

In the announcement, Cherniss says: “We are proud of this critically acclaimed series, an extraordinary original drama, and are deeply disappointed that such a wonderful show could not find a larger audience. We thank the immensely talented Sam Shaw and Thomas Schlamme, along with the exceptional cast and crew and our great partners at Lionsgate and Skydance, for crafting a masterful series. We are equally grateful to the dedicated fans for their support over the last two seasons.”

  1. This is a quality show that Amazon or Netflix should look at for adding more seasons. Their quality seems to be diminishing as they go for volume. This is quality programming available like Longmire was.

  2. Why does WGN-America still exist? Tribune needs to re-invent this channel just like ION, Hallmark, and just recently ABC-Family were. There’s NO d@mned way this channel can be even remotely related to the broadcast local Chicago station, and anybody whose family never got to watch the Cubs, Bulls, or Chicago newscasts on the old superstation can’t possibly be made to believe a channel full of scripted series most of which are past their network prime is somehow as exciting. Name it something different, and then *possibly* you’d have a little better chance of success.
