A prestigious gig has been snared by one of the regulars on the late-night broadcast talk circuit. CBS announced that James Corden, who hosts “The Late Late Show” on the network, will host the 70th annual Tony Awards.
The program airs Sunday, June 12, 8-11 p.m. ET/PT, on CBS.
In a statement, Corden said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be hosting the Tony Awards. Both times I’ve worked on Broadway have been amongst the happiest times of my professional life. I consider it to be a huge honor to be asked to host such an incredible night. It’s going to be fun; I can’t wait to dust off my tap shoes!”
Corden is a Tony winner himself, having won the award for Best Actor in a Play for “One Man, Two Guvnors” in 2012. Here’s his acceptance speech …
