A historical movie about the Ku Klux Klan — specifically about the effort by the U.S. Army’s K Troop to fight the organization after the Civil War — is in the works at Amazon Studios, TheWrap reports. The project, “K Troop,” has Joseph Gordon-Levitt set to produce and potentially star.
“Amazon has acquired the feature film rights to the project, which is based on an upcoming Slate article,” TheWrap reports. “Gordon-Levitt is set to produce with his hitRECord Films banner. He might also star in the drama as Major Lewis Merrill.”
The project “chronicles the rise of the Ku Klux Klan in the South in 1865 and the man who led the U.S. Army’s K Troop against the KKK in 1871,” the story reports.
The upcoming Slate article is written by Matthew Pearl; the movie is still looking for a writer.
