New Michael Jackson TV Series on the Way

A new TV series focusing on Michael Jackson is in the works, with heavyweight producer J.J. Abrams behind the project.

The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed reports that “Before You Judge Me: The Triumph and Tragedy of Michael Jackson’s Last Days” is being developed as an event series, with a network yet to be attached.

Abrams is partnering on the project with Tavis Smiley, author of the book of the same title and well-known PBS personality. Warner Bros. Television is expected to be shopping the series to broadcast, cable, premium cable and streaming services, THR notes.

Smiley’s book, from Little Brown and Co., is being released today.  THR says the book is “described as a taut novelistic rendering of the final months in the pop superstar’s life. The book examines Jackson’s highs and lows — including his constant hunt for privacy in a life that was more public than almost any other and the pressures he endured as someone whose fame made him socially fragile and almost unable to live.”
