Thursday night’s opening game of the NBA Finals delivered record ratings for a Game 1 on ABC with a 13.1 overnight rating, the network announced.
The game, in which the Golden State Warriors topped the Cleveland Cavaliers 104-89, eclipsed the record 12.9 set by last year’s opening game. The result was up 26% from the opener to the 2014 NBA Finals, which delivered a 10.4 as the Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs squared off.
Last night’s game was also the most-watched NBA game ever on WatchESPN, delivering an average minute audience of 347,000, up 111% from last year’s Game 1. The previous record for most-watched NBA game was Game 6 of the 2015 NBA Finals.
