Bryan Singer, director and mastermind of the “X-Men” film franchise, says it may be time for Mystique, aka Raven Darkholme, to break out with her own film.
The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision reports that Singer talked about the possibility during an appearance on the “Empire” podcast. The Mystique character was played by Rebecca Romijn in the original “X-Men” trilogy, with Jennifer Lawrence taking over the role in the last three movies.
Lawrence has hinted she may not be back following the current “X-Men: Apocalypse,” but Singer said he thinks Mystique is a good fit for a standalone movie, “whether it’s Jennifer or not.”
Singer elaborated, saying that Mystique “has this different view of the world. Xavier can get into Cerebro and look at the world but he’d rather just teach classes and see the beauty of mutants and humans co-existing in his mansion in Westchester. Along comes Raven with a reality check on the state of the world. It opens up a lot of avenues.”
