Character in CW’s DC TV Universe to Come Out as Gay

A character in the DC television universe will be coming out as gay, and the people behind the series appear to be enjoying teasing fans about just who it is. International Business Times reports that executive producer Andrew Kreisberg dropped hints Thursday at the TCA press tour without getting specific.

Kreisberg is quoted saying: “One of the characters on one of the shows is going to be exploring their sexuality and coming out. We’re very excited about that.”

“One of the shows” could mean “Arrow,” “The Flash,” “Legends of Tomorrow” or “Supergirl,” and the gender-neutral comment means the character could be male or female.

Creator and producer Greg Berlanti, one of the driving forces behind the CW’s so-called “Arrowverse,” made it clear in comments after the panel that it will be an existing character, not a new one, IBT notes. He also narrowed it down a bit, saying it wouldn’t be someone from “Arrow” or “Legends of Tomorrow.”

Those shows, IBT notes, “already feature a gay (Echo Kellum’s Curtis Holt) and a bisexual character (Caity Lotz’s Sara Lance).”

  1. But…will being gay become the only thing that “defines” this super hero???

  2. And Political Correctness continues its inexorable march of retconning characters for no other reason than because the entertainment industry is devoid of originality.
