Is Another Late-Night Host Stealing the Spotlight From Jimmy Fallon?

“Jimmy Fallon may be king of late-night TV, but ‘The Tonight Show’ brass fear that CBS rival James Corden is starting to steal his thunder, while insiders say Fallon is feeling threatened,” The New York Post’s Page Six reports.

The report quotes a source saying: “James is the main competition right now. They do similar things, and people there view him as the competition. He’s even lost some of his staff to Corden. And everyone knows Jimmy loves being the center of attention, so there’s some jealousy there.”

The report says the rivalry is being defined in the digital arena, where Fallon and Corden appear to have outpaced competitors such as Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert and Seth Meyers.

The inside source says Corden “is not his direct competitor, but in this age of TV, that matters less and less. Jimmy still has buzz, but he’s always been around. He likes being the cool kid and the one that everyone wants a piece of. James stole the buzz from him this year. No one knew who James Corden was a year ago, and now everyone in the world is talking about him, and every celebrity wants to do his ‘Carpool Karaoke’ segment. That stings for someone like Jimmy, who definitely thinks highly of himself. He loves being all the rage, and now another young guy has come into late night making all the waves.”

A rep for “Tonight” offered a completely different take, saying: “We are big fans of James. We love what he is doing and are thrilled that people are watching so much late-night TV.”

  1. I like James Corden but he takes too much time off. His show is new for four days with a rerun on Fridays. At least Fallon is on with new shows for five days.

  2. I stopped watching The Tonight Show when Fallon hosted Trump

  3. Love James Cordon!! He’s a riot and seems to genuinely enjoy his job!!

  4. Fallon deserves credit for doing well, while he is a mediocre talent. And more and more people are tired of Fallon being a corporate shill for all things NBC or Comcast, including Universal. Some nights, it’s like Fallon is doing an infomercial for an NBC or Universal product. The audience is not that stupid, and can see through that. And when Fallon put Trump on the Tonight Show and sucked up to him, Fallon lost a lot of credibility because he was obviously promoting his own right wing beliefs.
